Pakistan Rains and Flash Floods 2012
Monday, September 10, 2012: At least 78 people have died in floods in in Pakistan in the last three days according to officials in the country. The heavy monsoon rain – which began falling last week – has destroyed more than 1,600 houses while damaging a further 5,000, according to the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA).
In some places over 17 inches of rain was received in one day. Widespread Rain/Thundershowers with isolated heavy falls is further expected in some areas over the next couple days, causing more urban and flash flooding in the vulnerable low lying areas, where many people reside. Areas on alert include Sindh, Balochistan, Islamabad/Punjab, Khyber Pakhtoonkhwa, Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan.
