On October 23, 2011, a 7.2 magnitude earthquake struck Eastern Turkey, killing hundreds, injuring more than a thousand, and leveling dozens of multistory buildings.  Hundreds of other buildings were damaged both in cities making them structurally unsound, and the majority of the mud-brick homes in villages throughout the area have been severely damaged.  Hardest hit was the city of Ercis, which is near the Iranian border, and in the vicinity of the larger city of Van.

Thousands of people have no choice but to live outside and rely on aid as they can not return to their damaged homes due to threat of collapsing as hundreds of aftershocks have continued to shake the area and are expected to go on during the coming weeks.

Hidaya Foundation is collecting funds to aid families who have lost their homes and belongings.  Please donate to help families in need.
